Need advise on purchasing mini truck

Long time mud member and regular on the 70's, 80's and diesel forums but a total newbie to the mini trucks and the gassers. My wifes friend has this truck for sale and we thought it might make a good winter beater and occasional toy to take to the mountains.

So looking for some feed back. The good, the bad, what to look for and whats going to cost me money???

I have not seen it yet and here is all the info I have:
1987 Toyota SR5
22RET turbo
5 speed (tells me thats rare with turbo?)
250,000km (156,000 miles)
New clutch
New exhaust manifold
New suspension

The transmission in it is extremely desirable for dual cases as you can have 23 spline through. As for the turbo start here 22RTE-Trucks - Index most people hate the stock toyota turbo on them and end up either A) swaping to just plain old 22re or or install a Garret turbo.

You will need a new box. Unless you like being sent for VIs. Best ones are in California and it is worth the road trip. I used to get pulled over for the rotten/beat up bed, now I don't.

Yeah its far beyond repair. Thought I'd build a flat deck for starters. He does have the original plastic box insert in excellent condition but wonder if those dont just add to the rust issue?

they are probably ok if there is a canopy, but otherwise I can see them trapping moisture and dirt and hastening corrosion.
