Hello good people! Here is what happened to me. My tranny gave up on me far away in the backcountry. Got it towed to Williams lake where I am now. Heading back to Vancouver with my children by bus tomorrow. Please if anybody can tow my car back to Vancouver I am happy to pay some reasonable amount of money plus some beer for sure. might be worth it to sign up for BCAA today if you can't find someone. If you get one of the higher end packages from them you should be able to get it included. Might need to do 2 separate tows but it would likely still be cheaper than fuel and a trailer rental. Good luck.
 
Sounds like solid advice . Hey Matt could you call Tomas and coach him through what ever he needs to do. He called me yesterday I'm out and about but he has had is share of crap this last while and could would needs guidance on this . Thanks to anyone who can help him out ,cheers George.
 
Thank you Matt and George. I was lucky to find somebody locally who brings the car on Monday for very reasonable price. I called bcaa and it didn't look like they would be able to help. Off on the bus.

Happy to hear its worked out so far. FWIW, the BCAA "premier" membership will give you two tows up to 320 km, or 4 tows up to 160km. Williams lake to Vancouver is about 550 km so would have still left you with a 230 km tow bill.
But it does include several other things to help alleviate some of the stress involved in such circumstances.

I saw the usefulness in it after @Granite Grinder 's fj40 had to be flatdecked from Coalmont back to Richmond, a 310 km trip, many moons ago.
 
...and if somebody is interested in driving the most beautiful back roads close to Vancouver I am willing to share the directions :)

Tomas, good to hear you have it sorted out, sorry couldn't be of more help. BCAA might still be a worth while investment, I personally have not done it because in many cases I can usually fix most issues but several of my friends have it and it has saved them a ton of money in towing bills. Usually a good idea if you travel without other vehicles a lot.
Hope the transmission is not too expensive. Have another one or a repair shop lined up for that?
 
Ok so here is the nice part of the story. On our 5 day trip we wanted to connect Big Bar creek area with Lilloet. After failing to find the big bar ferry, we made it like 60km upstream to the bridge, crossed Fraser river and up Black Dome fsr. Has anybody been there recently? We only made it to the top where we wanted to descent to the other side of the mountain towards Goldbridge (Tyaughton lake). Is the road in ok condition? We luckily met 2 loggers with an satelite phone. They pulled me 3km down to the camp through some muddy sections. The rest to williams lake was an 700$ tow with an overheating flatdeck 8-o

Since my extreme valve body was installed month ago I have troubles with 1st and 2nd gear. There was some slippage and also manual shifting was random. On this trip I have lost them. Was able to keep it locked in 3rd and 4th (and reverse) in low gear but in the morning only reverse. Burned the fluid although kept it under 240f (260 for short period). Car will be here on Tuesday so I hope I will know more by the end of next week. I have a feeling the VB wasn't installed properly.
I will post here when I find out more.

Are you referring to the Windy Ridge trail that passes by Roaster Lake? or a different one? I did that one last year and was in the area again this year, no major issues as long as you do it in dryer weather.
Hope the transmission is covered and the shop doesn't try to back out of it if it was caused by that. Seems to be an odd coincidence to start loosing gears right after such a job. Automatic transmissions are annoyingly delicate when apart.
 
When I had my extreme valve body installed it was an odd shift pattern around second to third, I adjusted the cable and its damn near close to what it should be now, I think hah
 
Hey Matt now when you said that, I want to go there even more. Yes windy ridge. I don't have the map with me now, stayed in the car. But I think that's the one. Good to hear it's doable. I will definitely try to go with somebody next time. My friend canceled last minute and I just wanted to show my sister visiting from Europe how beautiful it is here. She got the wild part for sure :)
Yeah I am pretty curious what caused the tranny to fail.
Kudos to Sheldon from G&S cruisers for offering me spare tranny and even driving it to me. I still can't believe what this community is capable of ;)
I found an old trip report yesterday and it looks more difficult than I would like to undertake.

OK, tranny finally taken apart. Tranny shop guy says the valve body was installed incorrectly. From what I saw there are 3 round rubber seals between the VB and the tranny and 2 were missing causing not enough pressure to run the oil through the transmission causing... TC damaged, clutches damaged... Oh and he said these transmissions are pretty strong :)
Well I hope I can get some money back from the guy who installed the VB.
Its really difficult to find skilled people :(
