I just had a service done for oil, spark plugs, fuel system, diff fluids. Everything was fine going into service. When I got the vehicle back, I noticed this noise when at idle in gear. Does it in reverse or drive, but not neutral or park. It's louder on the passenger side. Any ideas? Video here:

Did they replace the cabin air filter? Mine made that same noise yesterday after the dealer replaced that filter and broke the recirc/fresh control mechanism. That left the control flap loose and vibrating when the drivetrain hit a certain resonance. Inside the glove box take off the filter access door and see if the flap is loose and whether it moves when you hit the recirc/fresh button.

Hi, I have this exact noise in my LC200 in Australia except it comes from the drivers side as it is right hand drive. Did you ever resolve this issue? Or can someone please assist with what it may be?

Not sure if it's the broken flap or not, but it's easy to check. Was the cabin filter replaced? Remove the cabin filter access door behind the glove box and see if the fresh/recirc flap moves when you hit the recirc button. Don't try to move the flap yourself or you'll break the mechanism (if it's not already broken).

Thanks Sandroad, I will have a look at this later on today 👍

Nope! The recirc/fresh flap is fully operational. I get the vibration noise after i've driven a little bit then sit in drive or reverse under load and hold revs at approx 750rpm. Ive been right thru the engine bay and nothing under there is making it. it has to be in the dash/inside firewall or possibly from underneath the floor in the dash/firewall region.

I have a VDJ200 Landcruiser with the 1VD-FTV twin turbo engine.

Anyone with ideas would be greatly appreciated before I start pulling carpet and dash apart. I'm not going to give up until i locate it! :D

SOLVED!

I purchased an electronic stethoscope from eBay for $60 the other day to go hunting for this vibrating sound and it sure helped locate the location of the issue.

It was the 2 steel heater lines that run to the rear heater core down the RHS of the engine bay, firewall and next to the RH exhaust, They were rattling in the crappy plastic clips they sit in. I removed the clips carefully, lined the 2 steel pipes with rubber then re-fitted them and coated in space invader foam. once it had hardened i trimmed the foam back neatly and the noise is GONE!

the two lines also run under a heat sheild further back down the vehicle. I had to bend the heat sheild away from the tubes carefully with a pry bar so they couldnt rattle against each other.

Hope this helps someone else in the future :D
