This photo was shoot through the removed instrument cluster(Canadian 83BJ42-24V). What are these two fuse holder items wrapped in the yellow tape. Didn't want to unwrap them to open them up until i spoke to all you fine folks. Stupid place to put them what ever they are.
Mystery fuse.webp

They don't look stock. Better open it up and trace the wires. See what the PO had done for wiring. I have installed a few of those in my truck.

Is it the bulb check relay or is it the Diode to Earth fuse?

O'kay, i'll bite! What is a "bulb check relay" and a "Diode to earth" and what are they designed to accomplish? I will say that both these come out of a factory wrapped harness. It would be very, very difficult to have cut these in without destroying the factory wrapping. There is barely enough room to grab ahold of these more less attempting to install them. It really looks OEM( but i might be wrong).

Both these item are standard on the diesel wiring looms, dependent on location whether you have a super glow or normal glow plug system.

I don't have a FSM with me at work but both these items show up in the wiring diagram.

From your photo it is hard to tell but I am pretty sure it looks like the Diode to earth fuse/relay as its about the right size. Its a bit like a plug that fits onto the end of the two pin electrical connections on the wiring loom.

Most people don't see it because it is quite small.

x2 on the diode. They are there to light up the warning lights before the engine is started so you know the warning lights work! Once the engine runs the current flows the other way and all is well.

Amaurer-I also have that two fuse holder along side my drivers side fender. It too had been wrapped with the yellow tape. These two that i'm asking about appear in the most inconveniant place to check and/or repair. But they must not be much of a maintenance issue so i'll leave them be.
