Hello! I want to share my fix of the timing belt reset switch in a hdj81 diesel cluster.

i was recently on a family vacation trip and my t-belt warning light tripped at exactly 200 001km's, the t-belt had been replaced by the previous japanese owner at 197k prior. I got the truck in canada at 197 800.

So basically, the reset switch would not work. I had to investigate and fix it.

The threaded part of the switch is broken.

I took a m6 and drilled in it using a 7.0mm drill bit. Then i used a M8x1.0 Tp to make threads to match the ones on the broken switch !

Okay, So i drilled 7.0mm into a m6 nut then tapped M8x1.0 to match the threads of the switch. Then i could attach both parts of the switch together and onto the small holding bracket.

I broke both the belt and trip meter reset buttons, simply heavy handed. I no longer have steady hands, so l purchased a second hand speedometer head, resetting the actual odometer to match the real mileage on my 80 easy on these old vehicles, of course newer vehicles with digital odometers are even easier. ;)

Regards

Dave.
