Thanks. They're definitely functional. I have to reinforce them, not because I am afraid they will break, but because I'm afraid that the frame is the week point, and I don't want to break that.

I like the way they turned out looks-wise too.
 
I had though of doing a set of bolt on sliders that have cross bars under the frame. Then some skid plates could be mounted to the cross bars. The drawback is it lessens break over clearance by the height of the cross bars.

Sounds like a good idea for those that don't have access to a welder, or don't want to weld for other reasons. Using this type of square, you wouldn't really drop lower than the stock crossmember. However, you would have a lot of extra weight and would probably have a lot more money involved, especially if you wanted to plat the bottom.
