I have been driving my "new" 1998 HZJ70 for about three months now. Here's the pic of the truck from the japanese auction site I bought it on.
It still has the original tires on it (205/R16) and it will soon be time to replace them. I like the look of tall skinnies. Can anyone recommend a good size that I can install without any suspension mods? Next question would be brand recommendations. I'm in the Cayman Islands where the off road is mostly flat, dry and rocky with lots of sand.
A lot of aussies who travel our desert regions like the Dunlop Grippers on the 16 inch split rims and they are what is supplied from the factory for australian 70 series landcruisers.
The split rim makes tyre changing a breeze and all you need is a compressor and spare tubes
The tyre size is 750x 16 and they come in a few tread patterns with varying bias.

Just wanted to post an updated pic for you all. Here's my truck on a Cayman beach with new rubber. These 235/85/16 Hankooks are more suited for delivery vans than off-road vehicles, but they are a huge improvement from the old bald dunlops.
The second pic shows why everyone wants tall vehicles around here. This is what hurricane Ivan did to 75% of Grand Cayman. We haven't seen this sort of high water in two years, but we have learned that 3-5 feet of dirty seawater is tough on most vehicles! (I am reading posts on snorkels with great interest!)
