My Conversion (or how I spent spring '06)

Turned over the engine and... it started right up. The glow plug timer is also now functional (there was a toggle switch by-pass in the donor BJ60). When I pulled the kick panel down by the pedals a rats nest fell out... so after some taping of wires and replacing of plugs the timer is back online! The drivelines are still not ready... I passed them on to a mechanic with a press to swap out the flanges and he's not done yet. But MAN! It sounds GREAT! Even better, it sounds great WITH NO MUFFLER!

Congrats! That is a wonderful feeling.

One key thing about converting... when you drive to the fueling station the diesel pump wont fit in the gas fuel filler. Found out the hard way... fortunately the attendant was really excited about my rig and we came up with something... funnel and road cone... goodnight all.

Believe me,the novelty will wear off as soon as you spill diesel on yourself a few times:rolleyes:

Must be someone with a diesel filler tube to suit a 60

Sounds like you did a great job. I am planning a similar swap into the FJ I just purchased. Need a donor BJ. How exactly did you deal with motor mounts?

And on the gas tank, looking back, would it have been possible to swap the tank-etc over or is that just too much work? Wouldn't that solve the filler valve problem?

edit:nevermind i just saw the motor mount on a second look

Filler

Actually I saved the filler from the donor vehicle so it's just a matter of swapping it out... two hose clamps and 4 bolts as I recall.

nice swap, looking wicked:flipoff2::cool:

It seems to be working...

Howdy all. Still working out the bugs (i.e. cold start issue, heater blower issue, tach no worky issue) but for the most part the rig is doing well. I had to add some spacers between the transmission support member and the mounts because the fan was contacting the shroud when I was bouncing around the mountains... and going over potholes in town for that matter. Fixed that today. Here are a few pictures from a little camping trip this past weekend up in the North Cascades. Enjoy!

It sorta looks like the pooch got into your beer. I imagine he's spoiled now and won't drink Bud or some of the other cheap stuff. Now he's gotta have the hefe...
