My '92 80 won't start. It fired right up this morning and I drove about 20 miles. I then noticed it was idling low (around 600) and the lights were dimming. I put a new alternator, h2o pump, belts, hoses, thermostat and t-stat sensors a week ago and haven't had any problems with it since. I am cranking fine and thought maybe it was a battery issue but put a jump box on it and nothing. Going out to see if I am getting spark (BTW, new rotor and distributor cap about a month ago. Any suggestions? Of course it's started snowing after I stopped. Thanks.

from your OP

Is the coil giving spark?

What is the voltage at the batt?

Don't know if coil is getting spark or not. Of course I toOk my tools out last night to put the new front hood struts so I don't have any tools. So I can't take the dist cap off to check. It has a new rotor and cap. I can't get the douches at Pep Boys to walk across the parking lot to check the voltage. It's cranking fine and I put a jumpbox on it too just to make sure.

ECT sensor? The sensor that broke in the thermostat housing? If that's what you are referring to then yes. Saturday we replaced it at Carls.

Pulling the ECT sensor and walking to Pep Boys to see if that is it. I replaced it back in dec of 08. Going to see if they have one and can test this one. Calling Toyota dealer as well.

So pep boys had an efi relay. Replaced that and that isn't it. A Toyota tech thinks it's the igniter so I've got one coming to me for me to put in. Let's hope. It's friggin' snowing like a bastard here!

Ok. So, I put the new igniter in (thanks John) and the new EFI Relay after I disconnected the battery and it started right up. Its still idling low (around 600rpm). I think this is because Jimmy adjusted it because the ECT sensor was broken off. Now I think I need to adjust the idle back (I'm thinking Jimmy did it at the throttle but can't see any marks on the nuts but the throttle cable is loose. Any suggestions?

there may be a throttle adjusting screw on the throttle body. it is soemtimes a large flat head. or you can continue to mess with the little set screw that physically holds the throttle open more. but i dont think that is the correct way to do it. though i have done it.
