mounting lights on windshield frame

Some of the night trail driving I do involves deep water hole crossings.. I've blown a couple of sets of lights by failing to turn them off before the crossing, hot lens and cold water causes cracks. I've been contemplating installing lights up high so I can use them with the other ones off.. I'd use some sort of flood or wide type illumination.. Imagine this sort of crossing in the dark with no lights..

Pull a bolt out of the W/S frame hinge and mount them in that hole. I had some but hated them. I used the hinge screw.

I guess this would be a good Spot to Pimp out the FJ40 Hood Blackouts! Could help reduce glare from the Windshield/Roof Mounted lights

I had a Reqest from a forum member, so i made one for his BJ.. He has to get it painted first, but till then all i have is the photochop photo..

All Good Sh!t !!!
Thank you all for your posts.
I'm not a desert racer, just a trail hog. So perhaps I will keep mounting them low.

Thanks again Mudders!

Yo Puke! haha, just wanted to say that...
I saw you responded to this thread.

Someone was asking about LEDs in another thread and I posted up some pics of some ROUND LED lights that I thought matched the old-school look better than a light bar. And, they are REALLY friggin bright. The narrow beams are actually narrow so I recommend the 30deg lights.

Anyone have pics of led light bars on their 40?

See ya.
