Ok fellow gear heads, I have finally gotten the funds together to get my motor rebuilt (again) and needed some advice.

Background: I built a 22RE for my 4Runner a year ago, it was bored over .30 stroked and had high compression pistons in it. The #1 cylinder rod bearing gave up after being starved for oil. Me thinks the bearing was to fat and oil wasn't allowed to penetrate. Anyhow the rest of the mortor is fine. Had the crank remachined and reveried the head and deck all ok, Thank god.

Now geres what I need, a new rod, a timing cover (helpers prybar got the best of it) and a bearing set. The delimma I'm having is whether to try and have a go myself or send it to a machine shop and have them do the bottom end for me. I need this motor to last I love this truck.

Second question is where to source parts? I've got a couple junk yards near by and can get stuff pretty cheap from my work. What about engnbldr.com? Anybody dealt with these guys? I've seen them referenced a few times on this forum. Any help would be awesome thanks.

When you said that the engine had been stroked, you must have had some aftermarket rods in there to compensate for the extra stroke on the crank.

I agree with getting parts from enginebldr. They're very knowledgeable and offer a wide variety of parts. And their prices are very competitive in contrast with lc engineering or others.

If you want, I got a timing cover from an 86 engine. It is dirty and sitting on my back yard. If you pay the shipping and a 40oz-er. Its all yours.
