Mine blew up in my 84 22r on friday in the middle of now where and there is a thread on here looking for a new one in seattle. Well I got to seattle found one that bolts up to a 22r and I knew it beacuase I helped remove it. Well it was the wrong one go figure.

The tranny that was in mine had the xfer shifter and tranny shifter right next to each other on the transmission housing and nothing on the actualy xfer case. The transmission that I got had no spot for the xfer shifter on the housing.

What transmission is the one with both shifters on the tranny housing? The xfer case had linkage that extended into the tranny were it hooked up to the shifter. I will try and get some pics up but need to find a digi camera.

I am also looking for that tranny or a xfer case that will bolt up to the one I bought were the linkage and shifter are all in the xfer case.

It sucks having the truck at some strangers house 3 hours away and no transportation so any help will be great.

Thanks to the guys at marlin I think I have figured out this little problem. Looks like I got a W-56 tranny after trying so hard not to.

I was wondering if this tranny will bolt up to the 22R and if it is a better tranny then the G series? I am thinking if it is a better tranny I will try and find a xfer case and bolt this into my truck.

Yes, the W56 will bolt right up to the motor (it was made to go with the more powerful 22RE), and yes it is stronger than the G52.

Your 84 w/the 22R had a G52 with a forward shift t-case.
There are 5 variations of the W56 hopefully you got one of the versions that uses a forward shift case (W56-C & D). Even then you will have to replace the shift rods in your t-case with the shorter rods used in the case that bolts to the W56.

If you got one of the W56 versions that mate to a top shift case (W56-A & B) you can convert your forward shift case to top shift.

Or you can get a case that mates to whatever W56 you have.

I have been doing some research and seeing exactly what I have and it is the W-56 that needs a top shift xfer case. I am on the search for one of those now and save my other xfer case to run a dual setup here sometime in the future.
