So one day I am driving to Vancouver and a couple in a little car in the lane beside me start staring at me. So I give them a little wave and continue on my way. They keep following me so I start wondering if I cut them off or something. I decide to stop at a gas station to grab smokes and they pull in behind me, the guy jumps out and comes over and start telling me how he loves my truck and wants to know where he can get one. After a bit of Landcruiser and MUD talk we exchange e-mail and go our own ways. The point is that him and his friend are a part of an organization that is organizing an even this Saturday, all interested are welcome:
During the month of June, Free Flowing Rivers Environmental Society is presenting a photo and painting exhibit at the AgroCafé on Granville Island. On Saturday the 21st from 6pm to 11pm we are gathering environmentally conscious and creative individuals at the AgroCafe; River advocates, Politicians, Paddlers, Water rights activists, Humanitarians, and any other proactive person who would like to attend!
Through our images, we will share the goals of our organization, while creating a venue for sharing ideas and initiatives. Entry will be $10, which includes a free drink - proceeds from entry and art sales will go towards the upcoming outdoor community programs.

Free Flowing Rivers was incorporated as a non-profit organization in the summer of 2006 to raise awareness of the value of our rivers as natural systems. Adoption of alternative energy sources, community involvement in planning process, and education are each a vital component of our strategy for positive change. A Free Flowing Rivers team is set to circumnavigate North and South America, starting and ending in Vancouver, BC, crossing 23 countries, and promoting in over 100 universities. We will develop 14 outdoor community programs and organize over 15 outdoor races.
So I figured I would forward this to our community to see if there is anyone interested. I will likely attend.

cool thanks for sharing, i'd be very interested in going if/when the tour makes it to ontario!

with the title and you drivin an SUV i thought it was gonna be a confrontation with a tree hugger! lol!

it'd be cool if some reps from plantdrive showed up and demo'd one of their diesel LC conversions...

good luck on the event!

All I can say is they must have been quite friendly, I'm sure Mat would have given them a piece of his mind if he thought they were giving him a "line".
GG

So, they like your truck and they figure it would be a good vehicle to circumnavigate North and South America?

Did you tell them you have some experience with that? :)

The initiative seems a little vague in the description. So the event is to meet and bitch about run of the river independant power projects? Or dams in general? Other social or industrial development of rivers and floodplains? There's lots of issues that would be specific to regions. So what's their agenda? These events are generally founded on good intentions and sound principals, but too often digress to anti development propoganda. Sorry for being a bit cynical.

There are some good local videos on the net for background on independant power, 49 megawatt comes to mind (re: the Ashlu). Have fun.

show up there and they sacrifice an SUV to the environment gods....

If would be good for the club to rep itself, especially if they want to close areas. Talk about clean up runs etc....

For the record, I have no idea what they are like, what they will talk about, how they approach the environmental situation and where they are heading. I figured, like Brownbear, that a local 4WD club, whose members are also part of the 4WDABC should show up and see if these are are friends or foes in the fight to keep access to our favorite places. God forbid we might be able to learn something.

As for all of those who keep brining up my car wash incident, go shove a porcupine up your :censor:.

So is anyone else interested in going?
