Has anyone tried to use a mold release compound to replicate a fender. If so, what is a good brand.
I have rust damage in my rear PS quarterpanel and I want to mold one from another FJ62, then fill the mold with fiberglass and mount to mine. I'm not a body man, but this sounds like it'll work and be a pretty cheap alternative. Thoughts?

Off the Cuff

Price out aftermarket from Napa / body shop supply house , and now figure your time against that.

I had a line on a 60 one for 150 or around , but they called me 6 months later and asked if wanted it ? and if so , we could order it !!!!

I though it was going to be a no show after 2.5 months , So shut shop doors , ear plugs in , and a panel beater i became. NO RUST ..

After 3 hours , hyd pulling , wack-a-wacking , heat and shrink , it's looking good.

Mine wacked straight , is four times the cost of a thinner aftermarket, BUT I'm the Wacker:rolleyes:

I've used "Coverall" PVA film for this sort of thing. I really like the PVA stuff - its water soluble, so you just paint it on and let it run off and it forms a thin film like a plastic grocery bag. When you're done just hose it down or peel it off. I don't recall if they have various types, the stuff I used was purple and the consistency of thin syrup.

That aside, I don't think this is a good idea. If you want a fiberglass repair just pack the holed spots with mat and resin and then sand and bondo it smooth. The mold is an unneeded extra, IMO.
