I just discovered something that really annoyed me, the Pitman arm connection for the steering link on my 55 differs from the setup on a 40, as shown in this thread, page 3:

I assumed all along that I could bolt in the mini-truck box (with the aftermarket 55 mount), now it appears I have to swap out the Pitman arms, assuming they WILL swap out.

Does anyone know if the output splines between the 55 box and mini-truck box are the same?

How much of a mutha is it to pull the arms?

the pitman arms on the toyota power steering boxes I have removed have broken numerous pullers incl the CJ109b Snap on (its a $120 P.O.S.) that everyone said is the best. It broke in about 20 seconds on its first pitman arm. KD tools one at napa has been the best. they are often a bitch to remove...

anyway the pitman arms will swap no issue.

Would it NOT be prudent to take both boxes to a good shop and have THEM swap the 55 arm to the Mini box?

I've had to pop the pitman arm off of a mini box before. I went down to autozone and got the pitman arm puller for a toyota truck (88) and they gave me this big-ass picklefork looking thing. Well, the impact wrench didn't really have a problem with the nut and after some hammering back and forth on it, it came out. All in all not a big deal. I will say I'm glad it was mounted to the vehicle when I decided to remove the arm.
