What kind of diesel, 4bt cummins is the easiest and cheaper then a toyota if you can find a deal on one. Pretty much just a trans plate and mounts then it's a one wire set up would just need to figure the guages out but it's popular in the nw area

I'm not an expert but wouln't a Cummins 4BT be too much weight for a Toyota pickup front end. I've seen them transplanted into FJ60 and FJ80 Landcruisers and they look like they came out of the factory that way. However there is a significant weight difference between a Landcruiser and a pickup. Just my 2 cents.

There about the same weight as a 350 swap. I've read in the forums that some have had troubles with jdm in the past I would research them and ask around before you buy one from them just to see.

What about a Mercedes diesel swap?

VW 1.9 TDI. I have been looking into swapping the 4Runner. I think the 80's pickup is even lighter and a perfect match. These engines are readily available, highly tunable and compact size. I have a TDI Golf too and it's a great engine. Check tdiclub.com conversions forum.

I agree with Andrew... if you're not going with a Toyota engine a 1.9 ALH engine from 99-2003 would be perfect. I've been thinking about doing one myself as I have a spare ALH that needs repairs. Stock they put out something like 90hp and maybe 120ftlbs but you can tune them up to a friendly 150hp and 300 ftlbs... or more. Would make driving on the highway way nicer than my 2L engine.

I've seen Acme makes the plates needed for the swap and being a VW tech I can say they're one of the best engines they've every made constantly going over 500,000km.

Also I can add.... you can go older and full mechanical but you'd obviously have less power. 1.6L is a pretty common sidekick and samurai engine swap.

Not sure where the 4bt, Benz and vw talk came from, but the link in the OP is for a 2LT, Toyota JDM engine trans and t-case....

Sourcing parts may be the biggest challenge, otherwise fitment should be ok since the 2LT came in the mini trucks in other markets around the world. Wiring the dash and such would be the other hard part. Your dash and sensors to that motor combo.

That Engine looks clean but if I were you that JDM Engine is a way to go because you don't have to modified anything except maybe the engine mount but that is not a hard thing to do , if is a mechanical motor even better but make sure its not LTE though , lot of people saying its hard to get parts but I search online and a lot of parts for this motor where to get from because I have a same plan for my 3rd Gen truck putting this Lt motor Under the bonnet.
