Using it around my house/shop I was regularly coming against the limits of my 50 series machine so I started looking for a bigger machine. My friends that work on excavators for a living told me to go straight to a 120 and don't look back, but as a non-pro user I really wanted a machine with a blade as I use the blade around the house all the time and it helps with how much it can pick. 120's with blades are not common and I understand why.

I wanted a blade, progressive thumb and a full counterweight as I don't care about tight quarters. I want lifting/pushing/stability. I ended up falling in love with and buying a 1995 PC95 Komatsu.

I think I've spent more time working on it than using it, but that's the nature of a 30 year old 8K hour machine. I've been chasing leaks and hydraulic issues, but I use it every day. Got it with 24" and 48" dig buckets then I relugged a 60" hard edge bucket from a 175 for moving material faster and grading. It has a progressive PSM thumb and 4500 PSI @ 60 GPM aux hydraulics at the bucket fed with full factory armored 1.25" plumbing. No quick change, but on the lookout for a pin grabber that I can adapt. Somewhere along the way somebody swapped out the 65HP 3.9L Perkins for a 95HP 4.2L Perkins. Certainly no lack of power.

Our company has 35,50,80 and then goes to 245,350's. The 120's and 160's are in an odd place. You can buy a 200 series for the price of the 120 and 160's. We have 6 Kubota KX80's. That is what our guys go to first. You can pull an 80 behind a one ton with a gooseneck trailer.
