I've noticed as mileage increases, the min/max range of the oil pressure gauge is also increasing. When the car was new, the min/max range was just under and above the 50% mark of the gauge. Now, the car has about 26,400 kms and the min/max range is much greater. The min point hits the 50% mark of the lower side of the gauge and the max hits the 50% mark of the higher side of the gauge. Is this normal or should I be concerned?

If the oil is the same before and after I would suspect the pressure sender, the gauge or maybe the bypass valve in the filter. Is it OEM? I doubt it is the engine internally, but of course I am guessing. I have never actually seen what you describe.

Hi,
I'd suggest that the range of the oil pressure gauge is not that large. In order to use the the in-dash gauge as a measure I'd be making sure that you test over a period of time with exactly the same circumstance;
EG: Just after an oil change - at a set ambient temperature test the car cold. then warm the engine for a predetermined time say - 20 minutes and re-check and record,
Then do exactly the same for each 1000KM remembering to make sure that you use the same ambient temprature as the start point.
At the next oil change do the same and check your findings

You could also put inline an accurate oil pressure gauge for reference and peace-of-mind.

If the above is too much time - take it to you Toyota dealer and ask them to test.

As said above - i'd doubt that there is an issue, they have been making this 4.5ltr for quite some time and I think that all the bugs would be ironed out by now.

Cheers:cheers:

Reviving an old thread. Has anyone come to a resolution on this? My 2017 VDJ-200 just hit 25,800 kms and it's doing exactly what the OP said.

I have no Toyota dealer near me. The nearest authorized Toyota place is 3 hr drive from here and they're about as trustworthy as our crooked politicians. The nearest from there is than in Namibia, a 10+ hr drive and border crossing.

Any ideas?
