I'm almost at 30k miles on my '16LC. Trying to see at what point others started to heavily mod. I'll be honest, I needed to have time to save up some cash to do what I wanted...so only curious as to when many of you began to tinker with suspension and bumpers, etc.? Did you do it right from the factory or wait...? TIA.

Some folks do tires and wheels and even lift at the dealer when new. Some wait until components wear out (like 100k miles for shocks) or until they damage something (running boards or bumpers, particularly the rear).

I bought at 49k. Roof rack went on a few months later. I did sliders the following year around 60k, and then new tires and wheels at 65k. I ended up doing a lift at 66k, though originally I was planning on waiting a year or two. Bumper went on at ~80k.

I'm at 87k now. I'd like to regear but may wait until I pass 100k since I have the Toyota 7/100k VSA and I'd hate to give Toyota an excuse to deny a claim, even if it's unlikely. I'd also like to do a rear bumper but I may wait longer for that since the LC is our DD and I think the double swing-out will annoy my wife.

man, your timeline sounds nearly identical to what I have been planning...thx

It's been driven by a mix of cash, weather, free time, and warranty, really. Also kind of like how you can estimate your grocery store bill at $2 per item or your Sams Club/Costco bill at $10 per item, your LC bill is $2k per upgrade, which is probably the biggest factor for me .

I should probably re-gear next given how much towing I do, but I've had the flashing transfer case CDL light occasionally and I'd rather not have to debate that the gear change didn't cause the issue if I ever have to argue with Toyota about replacing the actuator... assuming they ever acknowledge the issue (nevermind that I have video of it). And of course if I'm going to pull the diffs apart then I might as well do lockers at the same time...

I have only a single swing and my wife hate hates it. She doesn't mind tire whine or a firm ride, but open a latch to get to the tailgate - that is a bridge too far. . . .

Back on topic - you make the truck yours when you're ready. I got a high mile older one, out of any and all warranties, so I started right away. I'm focusing on the things that get you stuck, rather than the things that get you unstuck - so rear bumper, proper tires, air compressor to make deflating the tires and reinflating a non issue etc.

Unless you are planning on mods done at the dealership (as you mention as a possibility to preserve warranty), I would think that mods that might possibly void warranty to be the biggest driving factor. Not that I am one to talk, I took a brand new Tacoma in 2017 and started modding right away, but so far have held off on the LC200. Tires and roof rack (and possibly tow controller) are the only mods I have in mind for now as it still the daily driver. Once I move on to another vehicle for that chore, then comes the lift, bumpers, and probably regear/lockers!
