Maybe this will help those in hot and humid climates. I had a mildew or mold smell when the AC was first turned on. I tried one of those foggers but it didn't work. I ordered the AC cleaning kit from Toyota but ran into the same problem everyone else did and that was trying to find AC drain. Difficult to spray into the drain hole. I bought a can of ArmorAll Fresh fx vent and duct cleaner odor neutralizer. I opened the glove box and made sure flap was open. I removed the air filter, turned the car on and ran AC on high. I sprayed directly into the fan in the glove box. I only used a little bit of the can. Then let the AC run on high for a few minutes. I also sprayed outside along the windshield after turning AC to fresh air. It has been all summer and the smell never returned. I hope this helps out others with the same issue.

Thank you for this tip. I have had a similar smell occasionally. Will try this fix.

Mildew can build up when only running in recirc mode for a long time. Changing off of recirc mode for a while can get rid of it.

If you run the heater on for 15-20mins on recirculating it will kill the smell as well. Then buy a charcoal cabin filter from the dealership and it should solve the issue.
