I'm beginning to get quite a collection of microSC cards. Anybody know of a good nice small compact carrying case for them? So far I've been using an aluminum pill case ( Amazon.com: SE Small Pill/ID Holder Keychain (Set of 6): Health & Personal Care ), but they aren't restrained in it, plus I'll soon be overflowing what I can fit in a couple of them. Additionally I end up having to sort through the cards to find the one I want. Any upset could have them all over the ground.

While the credit card style cases, where the microSD cards insert into the side, are interesting and hold a bunch of cards, they expose part of the card to mechanical action. I'd prefer something thing fully protects the microSD cards.

Side insert type: http://www.amazon.com/microSD-Memory-Holder-micro8-writable/dp/B005SPQ8XK/?tag=ihco-20
Side insert type: Amazon.com: micro SD card holder - BLUE BLUE: Camera & Photo

Anybody use either of the two above card holders? How recessed are the cards when inserted in them?

I'm sorely tempted to just get a bunch of these: Amazon.com: elago Mobile Nano II USB 2.0 microSDHC Flash Memory Card Reader (Black): Electronics USB Micro SDHC card readers. Half the time I'm putting the cards in USB readers.

Bogo if you want a bunch let me know. I can send you as many as you want. I had these custom made for us two years ago. I just organize a bunch of them into a small Pelican Case to protect them all.

Edit: sorry here is the pic.

Hey Joey, if you have some to spare I would love one.

Spent allot of time last night looking at possible options. Real frustrating. I wish Pelican had a specific microSD card insert for their cases. They use the same insert as used for SD and mini SD cards. It is just one more layer in the stack and wasts allot of potential space. I may try and locate a proper foam to make my own insert, but that is for the future. I'm also seeing comments the new pelican flash memory protection cases are of poorer quality than the old ones.

BOGO if you are looking for the foam as well I may be able to cut you off a piece that you can shape yourself. I will check tomorrow and will send with the card.

I'm sure I can find a suitable foam. I may even have some on hand. Because of the exposed pads on the cards I figure I'll have to use anti-static foam. I have a bunch around as I've done lots with electronics over the years.

Thats exactly what I was going to send. No prob if you already have it.

Just out of curiosity what the crap do yall have so many cards for?

I take a lot of pictures in RAW with a high mb camera, and don't always have access to a computer to transfer the data regularly. For example, I am going on vacation for two weeks, and while not be bringing my laptop......

Topo map sets and their backups for my Garmin GPSmap 60CSx. I also have backups because the GPS also stores track logs to the MicroSD card, and will eventually kill it from to many writes. I've had a couple cards killed sofar so I keep backups of the map sets which take hours to generate and transfer to the GPS. I think the GPS writes the block and updates the directory after every point is recorded rather than buffering them until a whole block is full. Thankfully they are just files and once a map set is generated, I can copy them to another card or to a hard disk easily. I also have a master card with all the map sets on it. Of course the master copy is on a Lexar 32GB MicroSDHC card and it is getting flaky. It was just copied to my hard disk and I'm now verifying them against the other copies.

(Writing this post got interrupted by loading a heifer onto the trailer. It's destined to become dinner. I need to refill my freezer.)

I've also ordered a larger pil case and I'll be cutting a small block of anti-static foam to put in it. Some slits cut into the face of the foam will allow cards to be inserted into them. A tab formed by a piece of tape wrapped around the edges of the foam will allow pulling the foam block out of the pill case. I can also write on the tape to label the contents. I'm making that case for hiking. I figure I'll put the duplicate map cards for the area I'm hiking in in it. It can then be dropped into the backpack or camera case without worry. We'll see how that works.

Dang, ya'll are serious about your gps'ing! I don't get anywhere near that involved around here(nothing cool to go explore, and if there is it's leased up:mad:)
That makes sense though; I was just thinking I've got quite a few pics/videos and they fit fine on one 8gb card. I actually bought a 16gb one to go in our new Sony A65 but for whatever reason the camera screws up with it. Works fine with the exact same card at 8 gb:confused:
I don't do RAW either(my camera is WAAAY more advanced than I am!)

Samsung has a fast, >20mbs, class 10 line of MicroSDHC cards that messes up in some systems. It works fine with my tablets, but I can only get around 1mbs when in a MicroSD to USB adaptor.

Mine arrived a couple days back. Thanks.

They fit nicely into my Pelican 1030 which I use for storing camera batteries and compact flash cards.

Hoping everyone got theirs. I sent out 11 packages in total before I left for my Europe trip.
Mine arrived a few days ago...an ingenious design as I noted in the pm back to nlxtacy...the holders go into double 6-mil bags and then in a small Pelican case.

nlxtacy, thanks again;) and enjoy Europe.
