Hey all, I'm currently running the Michelin Defender LTX M/S. I ended up getting a puncture in one yesterday and realized they have been discontinued due to the M/S2 coming out. I'm trying to find a matching one in my area (DFW), but my question is - would it be a bad idea to buy one of the M/S2's while still having the old model on the other 3 wheels?

It’s not very desirable. No. The puncture is outside the tread?/ unpatchable ?

Do you have a spare that is the same?
I’ve had luck sourcing lightly used / same tread depth tires on eBay in the past.

If they’re like 6-7years+ old it’s time to replace them anyway.

Yeah, that sucks. I'd much rather have the LTX M/S than M/S2's. You do need them in pairs, on the same axle(-ish), but you could get away with having the LTX M/S as the spare.

I've run into this problem and bought a replacement from here, High Quality Used Tires Online Shop. Save up to 500$ on sales! - https://www.utires.com after I measured the existing tread depths on my other tires so as to be in spec. I've actually done this for a few of my vehicles now, replacing aged-out spares, etc. No problems nor complaints yet.
thanks, i'll check out that site. how comparable should the tread depth on the new tire be to the existing tires?

I don't recall a specific value. I used my neighbors micrometer and measured the three tires I was keeping and they were all very close in tread depth to each other. I was probably within a 1/16th of the tire on the opposite side of the car, certainly not more than an 1/8". I'd probably Google search for a more solid answer.
