Yo Pat,

Depending on your vintage you may try just replacing the voltage regulator - easy if it's an external, tougher if it's internal to the alternator. You may also want to take your alt and have a shop check the diods to make sure that all the windings are contributing to the cause. The only one that I know of is in Arlington Heighs on Aurther just south of Northwest Hwy. MG Auto Electric - they can normally rebuid/reman in a day, don't know whether they charge for diagnosis. I've used them before for the 62. Good folks.

Pat,

If the regulator is external to the alt it will be mounted inside the engine bay - on driver fender well on my 55 not sure where on a 60.

60's and 62's have internal regs.

thanks landpimp.

thanks for the input also ming.

it seems to be doing ok as long as i let it warm up. if i don't let it warm up and just start it and drive it, then i seem to have problems.

Alternator died this morning. Been running around with only battery juice. I was planning on getting the Mean Green ... but after this thread I'm puttin' on a Toyota re-man'ed unit. Don't really need the extra juice and definitely don't need hassles.

Cheers,
Cahil
