Me vs H1

First, let me state that I like the H1's and believe they are pretty tough, especially if the military uses them.
Last week at Cruise Moab, we had a few locked 80's, an unlocked 80 and an unlocked H1 on Steel Bender in the rain. THe locked 80's had no trouble with the obstacles at all. The unlocked 80 did a bit better than the H1, due to articulation, even considering the 31" ATs vs the 37" Swampers on the H1.
By the way, the H1 had a "TOYOTA" emblem in the grill, so it qualified to go on the run.

...Oh come onn , someone has to have a picture of that ... post it up ! The other I like , of an H1 , if the one where someone's wiching out an H1 , and is wearing on of Junk's T-shirts .... ( I never asked Mike .. but I wondered if that was him in that pic ? )

The original H1s had a setup where you step on the gas and hold the brake and it would lock everything. First coasting unlocked it again. The newer ones (99+ I think) had an electronic traction control system. I've driven both systems on the factory obstacle course and prefer the newer system. Odd, as I don't like electronics in this application.

For the 80: 86.5" (w/o mirrors) - 76" = 10.5" difference
For the 100: 86.5" (w/o mirrors) - 76.4 = 10.1" difference

The H1's has Torsen (Torque Sensing) limit slip differentials, at least on the early non-electronic traction controlled models. The military HMMWVs also have the Torsens.
The torsen works by multiplying the torque, but if one wheel has too little or no traction, it will spin like an open diff. So the procedure for low traction situation is to keep one foot on the brake to generate torque on the low traction wheel (all Hummers are slushbox). It's funny to see a newby in a pimped-out Hummer "gunning" the engine while the wheel is spinning on a wet/muddy surface. When that wheel finally catches traction, boom goes the CV joint (the Hummer has portal axles that have a 2:1 ratio, which adds CV exploding factor).
The HMMWV has 37" GY MT/R, as it's the only popular tire in that size.

Guys,
This is the LC version of the military H1, it's called the Megacruiser, similar to the H1 in looks but the underpinnings is what you expect from a military setup, I would suspect it is similar to that found in the FJ45 many years ago.
