Max angle to avoid engine oil starvation

I searched the forum and did not find . . . . what's the maximum angle I can run at and avoid oil starvation?

For context, I recently got into an interesting situation while wheeling where I was at approximately 45 degree angle with the front up and the tail down. I was pretty stuck and had to get pulled out. For those interested this was on the first major obstacle of the Slick Rock trail (38.47242, -120.01173).

This got me wondering what angle I can comfortably idle my 100 series land cruiser. I worry about starving the oil pickup.

Anyone have any experience here?

As long as your oil level (through the dipstick level - hot level to be specific) is correct per vehicle’s manual, the 45° uphill climb should be no problem for the 2UZ. And this is assuming a few things:
• the condition of the engine overall is good (minimal to no sludge anywhere) to rule out oil pressure loss due to starvation.
• no continuous prolonged wheel hop as that disrupts oil from being picked up if the level is low (so it’s really important you check your oil level at any given time esp before wheeling).

Also, why do you believe that 45 degrees is ok? What's the max angle? Do you have any reference documentation? Trying to figure out when I should be freaking out .

Wheel base between a 100 and 200 is 99% identical, of course we’re talking about stock suspension.

Lifted setup has higher center of mass meaning your maximum static pitch and roll exponentially decrease, additional factors are your tire pressure and tire traction.

Bottom line is that you wont starve the engine unless your super low in oil.....or just don't roll over.
Your engine oil light will pop-up and that's your indication.
Enjoy with less worrying....after all its just a toy and treated as so.

Not really, but it's close. It's off axis so I can read it from the driver's seat. I find it's a good enough indicator to give me some numbers to calibrate my pucker factor.
