Insurance is a common service, as per the following which should shed some light on typical insurance for vehicles sent via container:

I didn't notice VIB Motorcars on the list (V.I.B. Motorcars). I think they're the second or third largest importer in BC. Also, Sooke Harbour Motors (Bob Sykes and Sooke Harbour Motors) now sells JDMs as well - mostly LHD Bimmers and Benz's, but a Pajero now and then as well. I have no experience with either, but they should probably be on the list if they're not already.

Hi this has been an ausome thread I have learned a lot reading this.

Now the Importer that I have been dealing with is Bonsai Motors :: Campbell River, BC, Canada: Welcome in Campbell River they are a regestered dealer in B.C. license #30804
I don't beleive that tyee and bonsai are connected.

I also understand that just because the dealer is licensed he won't try to pull the wool over my eyes, though the vib I got was that He was trying to help his customers. This seems to be his first shipment so now do I trust this guy or run.

I'll ask you guys this what did you guys do when Outback, luxury, and mustang (just to name a few) first stared out? Did you take the chance or go to the dealer that has been ther for a while?

Doctors. Lawyers. and Car Dealers. Having a certificate does show you have taken the time and resources to obtain it and therefore shows something. However, as we all know, it does not prove you know what you are doing or that you are reliable. It's speaks to the core of human kind. Each entity should be judged on their demonstrated ability to to the right thing. There are many good and bad from both the ilks of curbsters and dealers. Neither should be evaluated by the fact they are one or the other, they should be judged by their deeds. Go through the Kiiji classifieds and see how many 'licensed dealers' are advertising there alongside the curbers. Many of the dealers that are held in high regard in this forum started out from personal roots.

I've recently seen an example of a dealer selling a pristine example of an HDJ81 with a camper on the back of it for $39,000.00. I watched that vehicle go at the USS auction in Japan on Dec 27th for 1,480,000 Yen ($14,000.00 USD). When you can almost double your money as a dealer, it would seem the process of natural selection will dictate most worthwhile curbers will evolve to become dealers withal.

JDM Wholesale has been shut down (owners left Canada) and the courts are presently appointing a receiver to liquidate the goods they left behind in order to copensate customers and other business they were dealing with.

the list is no longer being updated. but feel free to post up info about importer/used car dealers as you hear them.

The only good news in that is that some JDMs may be going to auction. Keep your eyes open, folks.

Thanks for the link. Read all the posts. Someone is not practicing good client care.;) I am suprised that the other dealers haven't jumped to defend the reputation of import dealers by distancing themselves from the JDM Wholsale owners. Whether or not there is fraud involved - as implied in the Delica.ca threads - it can't do their industry any good to have what appears to be a business leaving in the middle of the night and clients out of pocket.

Think I will take a peak over at IVOAC.CA to see if anything is being discussed there.

FWIW, I purchased a BJ42 for James @ JDM last October. It arrived in early January. James was always easy to reach and handled things proefessionally. I find it hard to believe that he and Mel would do some of the things that are alleged in the discussions at the delica.ca site.

FWIW, I've been in contact with James a number of times recently regarding another purchase that's in the works from his company. There was a brief period recently where his email wasn't functional but other than that I've had no problems reaching him or Mel. As far as I know my HJ45 will be loaded on a ship on the 27th. I should have a bill of lading in hand soon.

I hope everything works out for you Rufus. Although I find that it is very strange that both their Company web page and the Auto Trader page is down at the same time. If I was runnig a business like this - given the degree of client/company trust required - I would be doing everything in my power to show people my company is alive and kicking. Just my 2 cents.

I'm not worried yet. I did ask James about the website going down and his explanation was very plausible. My wife and I build websites for a living and know what it's like when the client webmaster relationship goes sour for various reasons. I have no reason to believe that James has mislead me in any way.

BTW, this is the the purchase that's in the works: HJ45
