ok i ordered the hy steer kit from marlin, it comes with a pitman arm, my question is will it work with only 3" of lift? and before i tear every thing down should i go ahead and order the flat pitman arm from trailgear?

3" is the magic number....id say you wont know for sure til you throw it together. Its not hard to change a pitman arm after the fact.

besides the issue may be tierod-oil pan, anyway.

did not think about that, alright then i will wait til it gets here. i just hate to have my truck down for too long.

You will prolly be ok to drive on the street regardless.

yea i just went out and took the steering box off my 86 4rnr and the arm does not look like it would be the problem, so i guess i will see when the kit gets here.

I have a fairly low lift up front, plenty of room for the high steer. Though this is also on a 85 frame.

mine is going on an 84 so i do not think there is much difference in frames between 84 and 85, thanks for the info.

BTW my ram and tie rod have "self clearanced" my oil pan. im all good now.

i think marlin knows that i am impatient, i received the frame brace for the steering box, the steering arms and the pitman arm. in two separate shipments. hopefully today i will get the rest.

i got the rest every thing is here now. and it is going to snow or ice or freezing rain tomorrow.
