HI! I need some info on my newly purchaced 1991 PZJ70 CRUISER. 5 CLY. diesel aprox. 145000 km. The dealer could not give me much info.except the aucton sheet. It seems to run well and the body ,engine and interior are in very good condition . I,am planing on changing all oils and change out coolant but is there any other maint. I should be doing? Hopefully I can post some pictures next wk. when I get home. THANKS!!

Hi ,your engine is a 1PZ,a 5 cyl version of the 6 cyl 1HZ.

They have a timing belt that needs a change every 100000klm ,so unless you are 100% sure its been done,it should be given priority.
Do all the filters, air fuel and oil.
If it was mine I would have the injectors rebuilt with new nozzles, another 100000 klm job.

Apart from those items they are very low maintenance.
Looking forward to the pics;)

When I don't know what has been done, I flush the radiator system, the oil system and run some good fuel treatment, then change all the filters. I only run synthetic Oil AMSOIL but if you have favorite that works for you run that. For lack of a really good oil filter I would suggest the Toyota ones they seem to work very well.

If you change the timing belt make sure to set the indicator in your speedo.

Cheers,

Michael

Glad to help, hope we will see you again with pics and a little write up on your cruiser;)

The best maint tip I can think of is GET A GOOD MECHANIC.

It's taken me 5 years to find a decent one!

In that time you could have taught yourself:D:D:D

Yep I could've and I did.

That said, nothing will ever substitute for a lifetime of experience. I learn more and more about mechanics everyday but I simply don't do it as a job and don't have the experience that my mechanic does have. Something that would take me 5 hours to do with a little nouse and knowhow and the right tools (hoist etc) might actually be a 45 minute job. Applies to so many things.
