Mag mount antenna for a Baofeng HT?

Ok. Contraption worky. :hillbilly:

Not sure about durability, though. Might need to move this more front/center as the antenna is hitting about every branch on the passenger side.

So I'm trying to figure out where I could mount the 2m antenna, and then forget about it. Currently, the antenna mount is at the passenger fender, about 10" from the windshield. We got into some really tight trails yesterday - tight with respect to trees/shrubbery, not rocks or so. It seems the spring it's doing what I wanted, and the antenna is still alive. But it's been rough; not sure the antenna would last very long. Center of the hood might work, center right on the front bumper, perhaps - need to make sure the edge of the hood isn't going to be a fulcrum to bend the antenna. Back of the truck might work, but needs to be center, not on the corner.

A tab off your bull bar, perhaps? Might also help protect the coax from unthreading itself? :hillbilly:

Yes, I'll sneak one under the light mount on the passenger side. I'll need another coax anyways, the RG8 is too thick to sneak through anything. Thanks for the assist, by the way... :)

So, this is on hold. When mounted on the bumper near one of the lights, the antenna is far enough inboard to be spared the worst of brush/tree contact. It sits fairly low, though; not sure I'll like that. For now, I've revived the mag mount and stuck the antenna to the inside of the tailgate, without a connection to the radio. For the most part, I can hit one of the 2m repeaters around here with the Baofeng and a 771 antenna; vehicle to vehicle works as well just with the HTs and the short antennas (and I now hold a GMRS license...). And if I need to get out on 2m, the magmount with the diamond antenna will go to the center of the roof.
