FYI, I saw a recommendation for G&A Cylinder Head up near the airport:

I'm about to need to do some machine work. If you already found a shop, who'd you use and would you use them again?

No. Haven't contacted anyone yet. My project is on hold currently. I'll have some time to investigate after July. Until then my cruiser just sits.

Call Land Cruiser specialties in Oregon city and ask Tim who he is using these days.

Just a quick update:

Called G&A - guy sounds super nice and was familiar with the 1HD-T (he's working on one now). He said I can bring an engine by for a rebuild whenever. No real lead time.

Portland Engine Rebuilders - Said they're booked out for the rest of the year and told me to look elsewhere (though nicely). He recommended Watson Service and Repair over in Dallas, OR - I checked them out and they have basically no online presence or reviews which isn't very comforting

I also spoke with Tim at LC Specialties. He said he uses Portland Engine Rebuilders and though he's used others (he hadn't heard of G&A), he didn't really recommend them.. Only one he mentioned specifically was Don's Machine Shop in Gresham, which he described as kind of "scatterbrained" and often lost or mixed up parts. He also recommended checking w/ Torfab and Valley Hybrids, though I'd ideally like to keep this at least semi-local.

So G&A seems to be the ticket. Wonder how familiar they are with a 2F? Maybe I'll call them.

Have you talked to Land Cruisers Northwest? That guy Josh is a real gearhead. He used to have his own shop on N Willamette and they did a lot of resto-mods.
