I have an M101A1 from circa 1963 in good shape. Full set of metal verticals with wood slats and all of the hardware, all of the bows and "new" camo rubberized canvas top. The trailer itself is OD green, about ten coats worth it seems. No holes, no through rust, needs some wire brushing here and there and some Rustoleum primer and paint where the rust gets wire brushed. But it would give a decade and more service as is without any work. It has the odd five bolt pattern and it has 9x16 military tires in good shape. No surge brake - like the M101A1 pictured in the previous post, though that one is minty.
I also have what I think it an overhauled M101A2 with the surge break and the humvee drop axle. The plate says A2, but it is my understanding that A2's came oem with straight axles. This one is from 1998, iirc, and is in very good shape. One small dent (3" wide x 1" deep) in one of the exterior bed ribs. Full set of metal verticals with fiberglass slats and all hardware, all of the bows and a rubberized canvas top. The trailer and top are both desert tan. An hour or two with a soft wire brush or maybe a stiff scrub brush and some Rustoleum primer and paint would take care of all spotting. None of the very light rust is through the galvinizing, but left unattended it would be in a couple of years. This one came with standard eight bolt wheels and street tires, so someone heisted the hummer wheels. I bought a set of three reconditioned and powder coated eight bolt two piece hummer wheels and three used hummer tires for the trailer. Looks great with the hummer wheels and tires, but I will eventually have to extend the fenders to keep Johnny law happy - but that is ok since that is where I will mount some fuel cans. The tires are 37"x12.5" which matches my Jeep, though the hummer rims are 16.5" and my Jeep 17". I use it behind both my Jeep and my Suburban, so changing hubs ends up with one or the other miss matched - and so the spare hummer tire and wheel.
Both trailers tow great. I paid $700 for the A2 and I think $500 for the A1 which I have owned longer. I've had trouble getting a title to the A1 and it resides at one of my hunting clubs. The other I plan to use as an "Expo"/hunting/fishing base camp, but I have a continuing needs for it as a utility trailer too.
For the Expo or hunting/fishing offroad camp trailer use, I have begun to look at some of the flip pack or pop top pickup options. I think a midsize long bed truck pop up will fit, but need to do more investigation. That route would keep the bed clear for gear, fridge/coolers, guns...
Bkfj40, I am interested in your trailer.
