Hopefully these 'vs' questions aren't too much and actually go to stoke the search tool with more info.

I am already LC200 / LX570 shy as I have had a couple shady situations pop up during my search. Today I found an interesting mix - a tech package 2011 with 96,xxx miles AND 09 with only 58K.

09 is a California car, clean carfax and pics look great. Would have a PPI done as a matter of course to be safe.

2011 is a loaded Chicago area car, but has very little rust, clean carfax, and is offered for sale at a Toyota dealer via trade in but with almost 2X the miles.

They are the same $ price.

Does the 2011 offer enough different features (magic cruise control, etc) to justify the higher miles?

Something doesn't seem right with your description. Which one has the lower miles? Does the 7 year old Chicago area truck really have very little rust? Are you going to do the PPI on either truck, or have that done by someone else?

The older one has fewer miles. Would have the PPI done

The newer one is for sale at a Toyota dealer and I have a copy of their trade in inspection and it looks fine, so no need to pay to have that repeated.

Forget about the rusty Chi-town bucket if you value your hard earned dollars. Rust never sleeps and it'll be viewed as vehicular herpes when you try to sell it.

What price?

I would not consider buying the Chicago vehicle. The Cali one sounds like a candidate if everything checks out.

I bought an 08 LX. I looked at some Midwestern cars but avoided them given the salt used on their roads. My LX came from Reno, it has light rust on some of the exposed metal on the rear axle and supports. Nothing that a wire brush and a can of rust inhibitor won’t cure. I’d avoid th CHI car, they’ll be rust where your least expect it and it will come out later.

Chicago? Isnt that where forrest gump ran faster...

Is the lx from taki motors in IL? You should look that car over carefully, if it is.

I just paid $34k for an '08 with 70k miles on it and think I got a good deal. California car all the way. As mentioned, Rust never sleeps.

I live in the Chicago area and just bought my LX570 (2011 w/99k) from Dallas, Tx. I would not buy a local car. Now I am getting it treated so it won’t rust.

Here are some pics of the rust on the Chicago car:
