How do you remove the steering wheel? Is there anything special to do?
If you replace it with another steering wheel of the same type do you need to use the cruise control included with the new steering wheel?

Point wheels straight ahead and remove ignition key.

Disconnect the battery and wait 90 seconds before removing the torx screws that hold the airbag in place. Undo the spiral cable connector which is usually interlocked (2-step retainer).

Lay the squib (airbag unit) face up on the passenger floor.

Undo steering wheel retaining nut and remove steering wheel. If its stuck you should leave the nut in place 3-4 turns so the steering wheel doesn't smash your face when it finally pops off. Wiggle and pull the steering wheel til its free.

Tape the spiral cable so that it doesn't lose its index.

When installing the steering wheel be certain to torque it to spec.

Excellent thanks much. I bought a used 80 steering wheel and had it redone and will install it next week.

This might rain on my parade. I know I'm going to need to swap or re-pin the Cruise control but the horn is something I regretfully overlooked. I just got my IS steering wheel so I'm past the point of no return. I have an automatic IS300 steering wheel with the shift buttons on the steering wheel, I wonder what I could do with them?

I'll keep you all posted if the IS300 wheel becomes a viable alternative.

For future reference:

Guts of the IS300 Wheel - you can see the wiring for the up/down shift buttons running in with the Cruiser Control Module wiring.

I sure hope I can make it work, it's very similar to the MKIV Supra steering wheel!

The Mach 5 immediately came to mind so I had to share...
BTW: I swapped out my wheel (for a recovered one) this weekend. I hope you work this out. Cheers.

Steering wheel is on. Cruise control harness plug is identical to 80 series one and plug right in. However the wiring is pinned differently so I'll be re-pinning if I can find a diagram or swapping the LX450 staulk to the IS300 wheel. Airbag plugs dont work together but I am going to order a OEM adaptor PN: 09082-0076 and see if that will make them compatible, and it should. Will update with more info as it unfolds. Love the wheel, slightly smaller diamter than the facotry LX wheel.

Any update on this?
