Any of you guys from California have issues with smogging? I really want to get one but concerned about that.

I can't speak to this directly as I haven't smogged my 2018 yet. However, I have been modifying cars in California for as long as I have been driving and I have always found ways to smog them. The Land Cruiser is the least modified car (as far as smog goes) that I have owned. As long as it isn't throwing any codes (and it hasn't in 2800 miles) I am not worried about it.

Wow! That increases the range. Slee does great work. I wish they would agree to install the 12.5 gallon tanks again.

So they install LRA tanks but only the 24/40gal models? What is the reasoning behind this?

I was $3900 including the tank and assorted upgrades.

There are threads here on MUD addressing this. This is what I remember from the thread on MUD. They had complaints from customers that there was squeaking coming from the area of the installed auxiliary tank that appeared to be not repairable without disassembling the entire auxiliary tank system.
Probably someone from SLEE should chime in to address the 12 1/2 gallon tank installation issue.

I had no problem smogging my '98 with an aux tank for about 10 years....and then I took it to a different smog shop and they noticed the button that redirects fuel to the rear tank. Next thing I know, it's on the lift and they're looking for CARB stickers. I genuinely had no idea having an aux tank was a problem in Kalifornia. So they graciously don't charge for the smog test, send me on my way, and proceed to flag my VIN in the smog system which pretty much ****s me. Subsequent smog testing required creative solutions and I will transfer my registration to Wyoming to avoid further Kalifornia smog nonsense.

Yep….. there is always someone ready to save the world…..😷

Install prices and install times are going to vary wherever you look at getting it installed. When I got mine, the tank itself was less than half the cost and I installed myself. If you’re interested in a shop doing the install, call around to places and get quotes.

Just a 2 cent addition to that…
—When you call around though……..try to find a shop with prior installs of LRAs. Its not a no-brainer install. Thoughtful experience is important on this one…or at least a readiness to humbly seek info from other before they just hand it to someone less busy in a shop.

PMing you…

I did my 12.5 tank myself, with just hand tools and Jack stands. If you don’t know what you’re doing, the instructions can be a bit confusing on the first read through. I had my wife help at the actual hanging of the tank time- I bench pressed it up into place and she started the bolts. Not too difficult.

I see plenty asking about who replaced what that came with the tank and smells and such.

The only thing I would do right off the bat is a better fuel transfer pump. Khris at LRA and I had plenty of phone and text time.
There is a pump from Summit that is faster and quieter- I think it’s like $60 and I would recommend it. I’ll be swapping mine this summer. I don’t know why, or why other parts you would “immediately swap out”?
🤷🏼‍♂️

The only change to any of the factory fuel system is the new neck. Fuel from the LRA tank is pumped into the fill neck of the factory tank, so you should never have vapor, spill, vac codes thrown.

Measure the factory neck 3 times- then cut it long. I cut mine about 2” short and spent a whole day calling and running around to shops trying to get a longer piece of the metric hose to extend my f up.

The other thing I f’d up was not putting the ground line on the sender, so my fill button always reads empty- pain in the ass since it only pumps like 1.25 gallon once it reads empty, to save the pump. So, until I fish another line into there, I have to hit the button 7 times. I’ll fix it once the winter slush and salt
are gone from NY

If you can read directions, crimp a wire, twist a wrench, and hold 40lbs over your head for a minute or two, you can do this install in your driveway.
If you do get a shop to do it, I recommend a shop that has done at least a couple, or is willing to give you a break so that they can use yours to learn. It’s not hard, it just takes time, and I get especially anxious doing things I’ve never done before, since my 200 is my daily too- it’s my only vehicle. So, if it needs to sit past the weekend, my wife and I are sharing a car. Luckily we work together

There is a great YouTube video- I don’t have the link- but you can search.

As someone who has smogged vehicles with giant turbos, complete secondary fuel injection rails and methanol injection I am shocked they noticed the switch.
