Loud squeal from under the truck?

It felt more responsive and smoother. Not just because the clunk of the U Joint wasn't there. It also felt more powerful. This could just be perception but the seat of the pants feel was different. I don't know if splitting the hp between the front and rear makes a difference or not. I'm not an engineer, just going by what I "felt".

I know I've read arguments in favor of part-time because of less wear on the front axle. If this is the case then it would make sense that there is more horsepower going to driving the rear wheels and it isn't being robbed by the front axle. Once again, I don't know, just how it "felt".

Spot on about horsepower loss, this is why 2WD will always be quicker, there is less loss through the differential but that is where the advantage ends. For example, if you turn into a bend then there will be some additional power to push you through but, you would have to be driving quite hard to feel the benefit and you can only use it to a limit, if it was raining or the surface was slippery for example you could not use that additional power. Drive it steadily and you will not know the limits of your cornering ability, drive it quick and you may find yourself ploughing straight on and punching a hole in the scenery.

The argument is akin to the 3 link suspension, fantastic articulation off road, and fine on road until you get near the limit perhaps because you arrived at a corner a little too quick, you react to the turn and the end result has been documented many times, and none of it is good.

This subject always has it's 'nay's and yay's', for me it is the all round ability of the 80, I get in and drive no matter what the state of the surface.

Dave

I drive a 3FE, I've never been concerned about going too fast in to a corner... haha

Yeah, I don't think I will actually ever go to part-time. I like being able to just get in and go anywhere. I've been driving it for 23 years with full time, seems silly to change now...
