I own Toyota Prado FJ95 (98'). My inclinometer not able to display in day time as the inside lamination has shrink and looks its burnt due to heat. Its working well in the night with few lines but works well. Yesterday, I have decided to remove the unit and change the lamination piece that was attached. After I remove the head unit and dismantle the front cover and I found the lamination piece dropped into pieces and it looks like it has absorbed extreme heat and it brittle. I have cleaned the surface and I fix it again and I find out it does not display anything. I am sure that the lamination / cluster piece has something to do with the display. Its only one cable connector that I have disconnect and nothing else.I really hope someone can help me on this and the unit was working well for the last 14years. Need Help and I want it back. Thanks:crybaby:

Hello Praba1620,

I have the same problem with my inclinometer. It is working fine and okay to view during the evening but so hard to view in daytime. The front lens lamination has the very same problem as what you have and I was planning to open and fix it but read your horror story.

Noting that it is one of those older LCD type displays where the screen is connected to the electronic circuit via surface mount conductive rubber, I now am having second thoughts about opening it up and maybe opt for a gen4 iPod loaded with inclinometer, compass application from the apple itunes store.

Where you able to fix your meter?

Thanks,

Jim

I finally found the nerve (so pissed looking at it, defective) to open up the inclinometer assembly and also found that the laminate has shrunk and by all indications, extremely damaged by heat!! I cleaned it up and reconnected the unit and horror of horrors!!!! It wont work anymore!!! No more DISPLAY when before there was even if it looked crappy, theres indication it works. But wait!!! the display is LCD type so I did research and confirmed my hunch and found my answer!! The shrunken/melted/cannot see thru piece of plastic is actually part of the display, part of the LCD component. It is a Linear Polarizing Film !!!! So, go on amazon and found a company selling 8"X5" sized polarizing film and was about to place my order when remembered again!!! Hey, are'nt laptop displays LCD also? so go back to office, dugged up junk old IBM "dinosaur" laptop, salvaged the LCD display, took off the polarizing film, cut and mount on my inclinometer display and now, Im happily using my UNIT!!!! YESSSSSSSSSS!!!!!!

Now that was a golden solution:cool:
