cut out the cats and put a straight pipe in for the time being until i find a good deal on them. i have a bit more power, but not as much as i thought. EGR and EGR modulator? don't see how that would put that much more power back into the equation. any thoughts? oh, and what is the best source for those two parts. were you able to find them aftermarket?

I replaced my EGR modulator as well as both O2 sensors (and the cat$) at the same time. I didn't touch the EGR. I saw a marked power improvement. I have no idea if the modulator needed to be replaced.

Did you re-connect the hose on the bottom of the modulator? That's likely where your hissing noise came from.

When you cut out the cats did you notice any sand looking particles coming out of them? That's what told my mechanic it was the cats.

no the hose on the bottom is solidly connected. i could not see any light while looking through the cats directly at the sun...they were clogged and I am pretty sure the sound was from the back pressure in the exhaust. I will do the o2 sensors next, they have 200k on them. and I need to figure out how to test the modulator.
