Took my kids out for about 4 hours of driving (2.5 of that on backroads) and about 1.5 hour of hiking yesterday. I knew my 6 year old son would like it, as I go out with him fairly often. This was the first time I went with my 2 year old daughter though, and turns out she loves it too! Rougher the road gets, the happier they are, haha. This means I'll be doing a lot more wheeling on the weekends when the wife is working. :D

Anyhow, we did a small loop just past Jordan River. Went up North Main to the start of Loss Creek (FSR W100), went down Loss Creek a ways till we hit a camp, turned around and climbed up out of the valley up to another main (Jordan something FSR), then went up to a portion of the Kludahk trail, and finally back home.

I'd really have liked to see how far I could go down Loss Creek, and see if I could come back out onto West Coast Rd. Right before I got to the camp, the road was becomming pretty fun. Would be a great loop to do with cruisers if a person could get right through. Has anyone done this? I found a couple gold claims down there, and I'm not sure if the camp was the tenure owners? Or maybe hunters? I didn't want to hang around with my young kids though.

If we could get all the way down Loss Creek, might be a fun wheeling loop for a bunch of cruisers this Fall.

Yes, As far as I know the Loss loop is open and clear. Near the Loss Creek to WC Road end is under active logging, during my work in Renfrew I'd see logging trucks entering and exiting the road often. I have't been down Loss for a few years so I'd give it a 90% chance of being clear.

Looks like you had a great day with the kids. I'd really like to hike the Ridge Trail up there, I hear there are nice shelters (cabins) along the way but I also heard one has to be a member of the Panama Ridge Trail society to use them... dunno.

Cool, that is good to know Cam; thanks a lot. I'll have to try it again sometime; maybe with some other cruisers.

Yeah, I've found at least one of the cabins on that trail. One of them is just a few minutes hike from a logging road. I have no idea about the rules for using them though. I'd like to hike the whole trail sometime too.

A month isn't too bad!

I could give you some pointers and help a bit sure. I'm only available evenings after 7:30pm. Have you bought the parts? Best to get a kit that includes everything. You'll need at least the felt wiper seals/retainers (x2), kingpin bearings (x4), wheel bearings (x4), oil seals (I forget how many, lots), hub gaskets, knuckle grease and bearing grease, lots of rags and solvent/cleaner. RADD cruisers up island can put together a kit for you and will ship it right to you. I also highly recommend replacing your brake rotors and put on new pads while you have everything apart. Also a good time to replace wheel studs. I have all the tools you will need, so feel free to borrow if you want. One of the most important things, is keep track of the shims that come off the top and bottom of each knuckle; these are critical to centering your axles properly, and they need to be put back in the right spos. Watch a video or two on youtube before you get into the job. It'll make it way easier for you. Do you have a shop to work in?

be prepared for the sound of crickets on that one...

Probably THE most unpleasant job on a cruiser, this side of frame repairs.

Mine are sacked as well. Cruiser outfitters has the kits on sale for 92 bucks right now....probably hard for John to match that I'd think, although he was damn cheap on the spares for my cruiser retrieval run....I'll have to stop in to see him next week.

So very true. Half the reason I don't want to upgrade to another cruiser right now is because I don't want to do another front axle job for a long time. Almost rather swap an engine...
