...where the redwoods meet the ocean...
we just got back from 2 weeks in southern florida (mid 70's to high 70's plus some humidity) and so I'd like to take the wife and our 1year old out to see some snow. anyone know of any places nearby (within a couple hours preferrably)? I was thinking julian but it doesn't seem to have snow, so maybe just a run up to big bear area? thanks for any info!

I was looking into hitting up Lyttle creek but there is no snow. Ranger station says snow at 7K and above. Maybe head towards big bear as well.

I have an almost 3yr old and 6 month old. x2 on the big bear area info.

Just got back from Big Bear and the snow is nice for Socal. Make sure you take the 38 going through Redlands or the 18 through Victorville because the 330 is closed. There are some great free sledding areas for the kids too. Pm me for details.

For light snow wheeling, there are plenty of side roads off the 18 near big bear lake to take that are pretty safe if you're going out by yourself. If you have additional support vehicles, hit up gold mountain.

Enjoy your trip!

sounds good! We're gonna try to go up on tuesday...we have another family that'll probably drive our 3rd gen 4runner up and if any of you socalers want to join us feel free. would like to do a little offroading and let the kids (and parents) play off the trails.

The wife and I have our grandson tomarrow-15 months old, and thinking of hitting BB for lunch and some light off roading. Have to keep it light because we are taking the 4th gen 4-runner and leaving the FJ at home. The 4-runner is stock. I am familiar with the area. May go up the south side-38 and go in through 7-oaks if not much snow. Do Clarks ranch and clarks grade and come out in BB city. Just need to check if gates are open up top. Otherwise, use 18 through Lucerne and hit the trails north of the lake. Nice easy trails and get away from the crowds. Might take Van Duesen in to 3n16 or go in through Fawnskin or Polique-I think is how you say it. Nice light easy wheeling and good open areas for the kids.

If anyone wants to join, I will check this site in the morning, Probably wouldn't leave Riverside before 11. I like to wait until all the ski and boarders traffic are gone and the fog lifts and it warms up a bit. I know I am getting old.

Regards, SSC
