The nice thing about the fold open style tents is the window awnings and the rain fly.
The awnings give you privacy and shade from the early morning sun and also keep water coming in during a heavy rain.

It does take time to put the awnings up but I'd rather have them than not here in the southeast. I guess you can put up a tarp but if you're going to spend time doing that, you might as well put up the fold-open style.

who's tent and awning are you using. i like the look. and you are right - i think we all are over the cargo limit of what these tents an the tops of our land cruiser's are designed to hold. no mattter how you add it up unless you are solo or have a family of midgets, we are all going to break the limit

I just used mine for a 4 day weekend of camping. I was glad i had it and glad i had the "porch" as well. Even though it's short because it was made for a trailer, it still works great.

It certainly makes long trips much more enjoyable.

Mine sets up in about 15 to 20 minutes. I still would appreciate one of the hard shell maggiolina tents over this one since i've seen them both in action. But this one will certainly do.
