I purchase an MSR Hubba Hubba tent a year ago and used it once. I found it made a great warmer weather tent but lacked a way to keep dust out during windy conditions.

Has anyone found this to be a common problem?

There is no solution because it has mesh sides. This is how they make it sol light. To keep heavy wind and thus blowing sand or snow out, you'll need a 3 season tent with solid fabric around the lower couple of feet.

I bought it for warm weather camping in Texas and if it's not windy AND sandy, it works fairly well. However, it seems tough to find those two combinations. I guess I'll buy another tent with solid sides.

Got the hubba. Love that little tent. Great for solo outs. With the fly on the things pretty solid.
I've got a older marmot swallow and that damn tent is bullet proof. Damn fine tent but a ton of cash. Was a grad present from college from a an ex-gfriend.
Good luck finding something that works for you.

Yup, you found the drawback to the hubba hubba, in Moab, I had a friend have a 1/4" of powdery red sand in his tent after a windy day...

Otherwise it is a great tent for the summer for sure!

Exactly! I was camping at the Round Up in Katemcy, TX and by the next morning, I looked like a fine french pastry with delicate designs of powdered sugar. Ummmmm.

I have a Big Agnes Seedhouse. The majority of it is fine mesh, like the Hubba. But the floor panel extends a good 8" up the walls. The bottom of the rainfly overlaps this quite a bit as well. With the fly on, I get very little dust inside. But I do get some. I think that in a high enough wind, I'd get more, but haven't tested that yet. I may be testing it in a couple weeks, though. :yikes:
In a recent torrential downpour, I was 99.9% dry. The only water that did get in splashed up underneath the gap between the walls and the fly.
