Autohome rep- changed to: Maggiolina Repairs

Random question, who’s the guy on IH8MUD who does the Autohome RTT imports on the west coast?

A tree branch fell on my Maggiolina this morning, putting a baseball sized hole through the roof and I want to get some info on how to go about doing a repair.

Thanks,
dave

Dave:

That is a bummer, the storm was pretty strong. How about one of those RV places over by 101. They might be able to fiberglass up the hole if it is not too bad.

Remember to stop by my place and get your CR@PY key made back to specs.

Nevermind, I got the number to the place in NV. But I would like some tips on how to do a fiberglass repair if anybody has some?

Been there done that and need to be there doing that again before my next outing. Strip/sand/clean; fibergleass & Resin, then top coat with smooth bedliner (Cote-L Distribution Company).

Hints:: Lots of dust. Make sure you prep all surfaces very well. PUt pillows/mattress in Maggiolina to artificially flext the top upward; put newspaper (or other lining on the inside to catch drips). I'll split the cost of a can of Durabak if you want, as I'm sure my other 1/2 can is yucked up by now. Don't use cheap rollers - my smooth texture is textured and full of fuzz from the roller I used :).

If it is a roof repair - consider tinting the resin black, or some other form of blocking the light. Also, consider cutting in a skylight???

Quick fix: Duct Tape, spray can bedliner, white spray paint over the top. Bob

Thanks for the replies. I finally got a a chance to open the tent up yesterday and look inside, thankfully the headliner is in tact with no apparent damage. Had the tree limb not been slowed by its own branches this thing could easily have gone through the entire tent and dented my roof!

I was going to see if I could easily peel back the headliner to expose the hole on the inside and place some backing for a repair but it looks so well attached along the edges that I think it would be better to leave it alone and try and get a backing in-place through the hole. I'm assuming any standard fiberglass repair kit will work with the Maggiolina's covers (thats the info I wanted to get from you Mike S)?

If so, I'll just go pick up a "Evercoat Fiberglass Repair Kit" from west marine and do this myself as soon as the sun is shining.

You should be able to rebaild and repair the section - ever gelcoat annd polish it once you have it cured and smooth. It is really no different than repairing a boat hull.

Bo has kept his Maggiolina going through thick and thin for over ten years of hard use. I am banking on him buying a Columbus Carbon Fiber someday...

Call me if you get jammed up.

Mike
