looking at a new coil settup

I think I've gotten to fat for the ome J springs with L shocks. I've been redoing my springs every couple years for one reason or another . But now I'm lucky to get two years out of shocks and springs. My latest is broken rear j coil collapsed front coil same side and a blown front shock , the front setup is a little over a year old. Now I know guys are running different combo's now . So how are you guys liking what you have in the bush loaded up with your full camping gear running the hard stuff ?

My springs are way over do for a replacement, it is one floppy jalopy. A year ago I did replace the old Rancho shocks with OME.

check wit lance and sailor, they have the TJM stuff as well. Reviews have been good on the TJM stuff that I've sold
Sailor's rig must be on the heavy side so he would have a decent knowledge of the ride
I'm leaf sprung so I can offer no personal experience on the 81's ride

I like the 4" TJM coils and XGS shocks I got from Steve- good value for nice stuff. Too bad Tetu is such a pain in the ass.... (lol)

My custom progressive FOR system was awesome but I just got too heavy. The ride is acceptably firm and I would go with this stuff again from Steve. Flexes out ok

Ironman is bringing out some higher end shocks, expected to be available in October. Called Foam Cell Pro. Should be a nice firm shock to work with their 4" springs. I've been happy with the 4" setup. Flexes well, and handles the weight of my heavy rig. Looking forward to trying out the new shocks though, I think they'll be the ticket for a heavy setup.

What I have had to do is use are "heavies" all round (6,200 lbs loaded) , which gives an overall rough (sh*tty) ride, but they have never bagged out even after I get inadvertent air overcross ditches that were not suppose to be there - that has happened many many times. Too harsh of a ride for DDs though.

Yeah I think I tried all kinds of shocks with the variable rate springs. I blew up some custom Edelbrocks and 2 sets of Ranchos. I am not a rancho fan- they wont get any more of my business. The variable spring is the best, you must buy heavier rated ones each time you make your rig heavier though so not ideal for my purposes any longer.

I thought it was only the old Rancho's that were actually any good anyway? Something about being bought out and now they are crappy since they are basically just re-badges Monroe's or something.

I do hook it back up again on highway or when towing. Just fiddling around with this to find the best balance- I have a heavy duty front bar, far larger than stock.

i think your heavy duty front sway bar is just a stock lexus one. the way i found this out is that i went to replace the bushing with a used one but the one i got was way too small. at first i though i had a rear bushing but no.

Did you notice any difference with the sway bar tossed?

It is an aftermarket jdm bar. It is huge. I prefer it disconnected. I think the handling is better and there is far less 'head toss'. The front is pretty stiff already so I think the truck is better balanced front to rear without it and there is less of a tendency for power oversteer which is a rather sobering experience in my fat blob of a truck. I hook it up for the highway trips with the trailer. With my previous soft springs I needed the bar but now I prefer without as the truck is far smoother. The rear is always on and is stock. These observations are unscientific and unique to my rig.

what Geroge needs is to air down at trail head instead of the end. its easier on everything.

I'd tend to second this. The bushings from an earlier truck don't fit on a later one and vice versa. It seems that the sway bars both front and rear got fatter in 1993 or 1994.
