I noticed this pig awhile back, probably about 3 years ago and left a note on the window asking the owner to give me a call. He did later that day and I asked if he was interested in selling it. He told me he's had it for awhile and wasn't really ready to sell it. So I forget about it.
So I happen to drive past the area again today and I haven't been there in awhile and I decide to see if the pig is still there and to see if I can talk to the owner again. Drive past and it's still there.........after all these years. He never got rid of it. I knock on the door and here comes Jack, a very elderely man and I ask him about his wagon. I ask him if he can give me some details about it, and this is what I found out...........
He's been the original owner since 1972 which he bought for "$4000" back then living off of $50 a week. He said he wanted to get the luxury wagon and all they had back then were Jeeps. He said that he used to take it to the Sierra's to go fishing and he said he used to own a farm or ranch or something like that and used it there for awhile. He moved off the ranch and took the 55 with him and just used it when he went to the fishing spots with his sons. Said he took it to Canada and traveled quite a bit with it. He put an overdrive in it so he could take it on the freeways and basically left it stock. Re-painted it once after someone came around the corner and hit it parked on the driver's side rear.
I asked him if he still drove it and he said 1-2 times a week just around the block but hadn't started it up for about 3-4 weeks. He said, "I don't even know why I still have the thing. I don't even use it anymore and I wanted to give it to my sons but they're not interested in these." Sounded to me like he was ready to get rid of it.
He then showed me the inside and started it........a couple of cranks and it started up fine.
Here's Jack starting it up

Here's some of the rust....mostly in the roof gutters

Couldn't really tell if the paint job was covering up some rust but it looked pretty clean.

Dash was pretty jacked but overall fair interior, but hard to see with my camera phone.

power window still works too!!

I then ask him how much and then he says "I don't know how to put a price on this thing." He then says he'll still think about it.

I'm going back at the end of the month when I have some cash and see what's up.................I'll keep you updated.

Hope these pics come out.

Some much for that attempt. Here's a link. How do you post pics?? Thought I followed instructions right.

So back to the wagon. I don't think the rust on here is bad at all, but how have others tackled the rust in the gutters??

Don't actually know how much I should try and offer this guy. He is very nice. What sounds reasonable???

Thanks in advance.

From the looks of it he took very good care of the wagon. He couldn't believe that he'd kept on to it for 35 years.
Engine had some oil leaks from the valve cover but other than that, the cement under the pig was not at all like what my 60 used to do.

Question: Was the ignition really on the left side near the guages for this year??

You can see Jack reaching for the ignition with his left hand......why the hell is it on this side?? Driver's side rear got hit by a rice-rocket. Cleaned up pretty good. Not sure how much rust is hiding under there though.
