We expect a project thread!

I guess I need to figure out the frame first:rolleyes: Kinda hard to do a frame up without a frame:doh: I'm working on a few opions for that. What ever way I go the with the frame it will have the engine that stamped on the VIN to go with it. I guess I need to check the engines out. My biggest problem now is the honey do list. She had no problem letting my go to California and buy the tub. I just need to replaced the flooring in the house. So I need to get that done before it cools of here. There's no way I'd work on a project here in the heat anyway. When I do get around to doing it sure is nice to have a tub like this to start with. I know here in the southwest we are spoiled with the rust free parts we get. If it makes anybody feel better the reservoir for the clutch master cylinder was rusted so bad that when I moved the generator wiring harness it fell off and the back of the passenger's seat is also rusted pretty thin. Speaking of the generator I did say that it was included:grinpimp:

I removed the windshield and found another spot with no rust:bounce2::bounce:

Sweet find keep us posted on your progress.

Why don't you use my '62 40 as a parts/donor rig...it runs and all the numbers match...and I know a guy that has the proper trans for it! Trade ya for a 25!

I have a couple of early FJ40s that getting a title for should be a problem ones a 61 the other is a 63. But this was a 62.:hhmm: I do want to get rid of at least one 25. How about emailing me a few pictures.

John

So are trying to thin the herd too. Don't you have any other early FJ40s? So you don't have any early three speed transmissions? I really expected you to buy that tub before I did Phil. I'm disappointed in you. That way I won't worry about it becoming a cut up, modified tub. This is to nice a tub to have gone that way. Maybe make you a deal on it when you come to pick up a FJ25.

Are you mocking me Sir? Taunting me? Perhaps double dogging me? Take care when you poke the bear...

I missed the tub, never saw it till you posted pics....Somebody better do Something with that tub...I have 1.5 early 3-speeds of unknown quality.

I would never do that. I serious about when I said I thought you would buy if first. Now that I have it it really would be hard to give it up. Other than holes that don't belong this tub is in great shape no rust or dents.:bounce:

So how do you have one and a half early transmissions:confused:

New 62 cruiser

Here are some pictures of the next cruiser I picked up. These are some old pictures a friend emailed about a year ago. The cruiser was in Ajo, Arizona. The owner lives and work in Rocky Point, Mexico. A year later and I now own it. In the mean time it had the engine rebuilt and was in a shop about ten miles away from my homes. Besides the price going down during that time. It hasn't been registered in over twenty. The VIN makes it a 61 even though it titled 62. I will post up more post more picture when I get a working camera.

Dean was kind enough to paint brush out the guys phone # and resize them to post on Mud.

I was just going to send you a note..........You do know eventually you'll have to work on them. Better take that early retirement. Or did you just get it for the nifty double sided turn signals?

Did it have the single roller fairlead? Can't make it out but the four rway doesn't look right. :hhmm:

last three

Last picture is of the heater in the soft top tub. This lastest has the same heater just looks like it's painted black. My 65 FJ45 aslo has the same heater. Very common heater installed in the early Land Cruiser.

I wasn't sure if I really wanted it or not but after working on the deal for a year and then he called me a couple of weeks ago with price drop. I decided to just go ahead. This could be made drivable in a weekend. It runs now. But you know that won't last long:rolleyes:

The single roller has been removed and this one installed. The second one I've bought with this setup. The other one was on a FJ25. Also seen early Land cruiser lit with this setup. I'm beginning to thing this may have been a dealer install like the heater:hhmm: This does have the correct PTO for the early three speed transfer case. The one on Ebay in Washington also had one but this one cheaper and closer :meh:

I'd like to find one of those heaters for mine one day...don't like the model in my '64 :frown:

I wish I would have started with that '61. My '64 is in pretty sad shape compared to the handful of rigs that have been posted up lately...including your new '61 and that tub you got a few months back :frown: Don't get me wrong, my '64 will look great one day, but oh when i think of the work I have ahead of me, I think I should have waited a little longer, and started with a cleaner rig :meh:

Very cool John...very cool find

I can't see the floors anymore. It's full of crap. It does have the big gas cap. Still haven't check the air cleaner close enough to see if it's a gutted oil bath or paper element:meh: A one barrel rodchester carb, electric fuel pump, copper fuel line and a gas tank out of a 74 FJ40. Said the original leak. I was able to talk them into not throwing it away. Doesn't look that bad so I'll see. The sending unit may be good if nothing else. The oil filter canister is not OEM but it's not a spin on:confused::confused: The front bib is there but both clear lenses are broke. Bezel is there with two holes drilled in the bottom but it is the correct LAND CRUISER stamped bezel. Dean didn't have to cover the license plate not sure how many owners it had since the last time it was registered in 88. The plates are from Colorado. Some insurance cards in the glove box. Haven't had a chance to check it all out. Too hot outside. Maybe this winter I really take a good look at it:rolleyes:
