Locked front diff (1 Viewer)

I bought a 1996 LC a couple months ago and have been repairing all the little things that were neglected over the last few years. I upgraded the tires to something I can use on street and trails and after I did I realized that a prior owner had locked the front diff, great for the trails but sucks on the streets. My plan is to open the diff next weekend and see what modifications were made.

Any suggestions as to what I need to look out for? Any pitfalls? I am a decent mechanic but have never gotten into the diff so any help would be appreciated.
