I don't have a factory service manual, which I assume is a FSM, but I HAVE used the drain several times. As Rosco says, it's near the turbo, not easy to see.
You do NOT have to remove panels to get to it. I forget what size it is, but the plug is made from brass, so is soft. Make sure you fit the right size socket and get your tool into a good position before you put strain on. There isn't a lot of space to move the socket arm before it hits the alternator, and maybe the exhaust pipe gets in the way too. Maybe spray some penetrating fluid and let it soak in too. I put a bit of grease on mine before reassembling to make it easier next time.
No idea what a US DS is - United States Drivers Side maybe??? In which case, yes it would be on that side, and therefore a complicating factor to get to this plug may be the steering gear if it's running left hand drive.
