I've got a leak in my proportioning valve (83 4x4 pu) and was wondering if there are options other than an OEM replacement. Most of the online parts (partsamerica, napa, etc) don't carry the valve or a rebuild kit. So, other than the dealer (or a boneyard) has anyone rebuilt one of these?

mine is leaking too.
a total of 265K miles and a solid 30K of hardcore wheeling, i cant complain.
i have only been able to find a resonable one priced at a scrap yard.

ask cruiserdan. he may be able to find you a good priced one.

The only other option I've heard of is to plumb in a manual proportioning valve. I've heard Summit carries them.

I did this on my 87 turbo 4R. I used a Tilton 7 way adjustable (summit ~80USD) and mounted it below the brake master cylinder. It was a bit of a plumbing nightmare because there is an equalizer loop on the PS front frame rail that feeds the extra rear pressure back into the front lines. Also, the single rear line is larger than the standard metric brake line, so you have to go all the way back to the rear with new line. Once all was said and done, I was much happier with the brake balance of the truck (had the large turbo 4 piston fixed front calipers), since the stock balance was very front biased IMO.

Thanks for the input guys... I have some other stuff I need from CDan, so I'll get a number from him and then see what I can find at the local pick-n-pulls...
