Hi,

Just looking at trans coolers for my lj78.

What size units are people using/ is there a lot of difference/ performance between these size units?

These are the units I'm looking at as i think they will fit well where id like to mount it, thoughts? will be behind the grill and attached to the front of the ac radiator as i have room here and have fixed my intercooler lower down so this will still get cool fresh air that hasn't run though the intercooler yet.

also to be sure, are you all running these inline with the factory radiator unit, before the or after? was thinking it would go in before it feeds through the radiator.

lastly, i havent jumped under it yet to look for myself, just looking at units... but from the trans can someone speed my install up by telling me which is the feed line and which is the return line from the box for install?

I bought a Tru-Cool LPD4588 in 2013 for my LJ78. Seven years of towing later I have not had any problems with my transmission or the cooler. I put the Tru-Cool cooler in series with my radiator cooler. So they both help with cooling, but the radiator one also helps to heat up the ATF in winter.

"This cooler is rated at 19,000 GVW and measures 5.75"x11"x1.5" "

have you set it up so it runs through the new cooler first or after the radiator cooler?

I believe it's setup to run through the new cooler first and then the rad cooler. Which makes sense I suppose. If the ATF is really hot, some heat is dumped before it goes through the radiator; reducing load on the radiator. But if it's really cold out, and the fluid gets too cold going through the auxiliary cooler, it is heated up by the radiator before running back to the transmission.

I've researched online that some people like to split your connection so half of it goes through the cooler and half through the factory way then it joints back together before going back to transmission. The reason for this is so it makes the easiest flow for the transmission fluid. Search youtube "Adding transmission cooler tips and tricks". My brother who works at a diesel shop installs them that way. How ever I have my tranny cooler setup like GTSSportCoupe and haven't run into any issues. I run a factory early 2000 ford escape tranny cooler modded to fit my truck.
