Was busy this weekend working on the Prado, ordered a cooling fan for an 80 series and aftermarket LJ78 Fan clutch
At first glance there was a chance the 80series fan could fit but after removing the fan shroud I soon found out it needed some modifying. Out came the grinder and I estimate I took off about 15mm of each fin, and then tried my best rounding the fins to match the original look.
Also after removing the original fan clutch I noticed a wee bit of a size difference between the OEM aisin one and the aftermarket TORA one(the TORA one being smaller). This had me worried at first thinking it would be less efficient but boy was i wrong.
For the first time round i just installed the new fan clutch with the original chewed up fan, and I was extremely surprised to find coolant temps staying way lower then normal. I took the truck up slow steep hills it would normally get quite hot on and boy did it stay cool. The next day I removed it all again and fit the new modified 80series fan, now while I didn't notice a change in the coolant temps I could easily feel by hand the fan moving much more air.
I don't have a digital coolant gauge yet so exact numbers I cant give, but normally with my 82c thermostat the gauge would jump to half way going up these hills within the first 3-4mins, and after the new fan clutch and fan it never even reached halfway. Below I have some photos and links to the parts I used.
* This is the OEM chewed up fan, well overdue for replacing
* Here is the before and after of the 80series fan I had to modify

* The old AISIN fan clutch vs the new TORA one installed, quite alot smaller but much more efficient.
